Text messages will be sent to revellers in Sefton as part of a safety campaign over Christmas

MESSAGES will be sent out to mobile phone users alerting them of the dangers of excessive drinking over Christmas.
It is part of a Christmas Presence campaign launched to keep revellers and shoppers safe over the festive period.

Sefton’s Safer Communities Partnership, which includes Merseyside Police, has launched the campaign to reassure people while out partying or shopping.
The messages will be sent out to mobile phones by Bluetooth, reminding people to behave responsibly.
People will also see more police officers on the streets and licensed premises will be visited in conjunction with Sefton Trading Standards to check alcohol is not being sold to underage drinkers.
There will also be an advertising van touring Crosby Village and South Road in Waterloo on key nights throughout December to highlight the campaign.
Chief Inspector Zoe Thornton, said: “We want people to enjoy themselves over the festive season but we also want them to be aware of their own safety and the well-being of those around them.
“With extra officers on the streets we hope this will reassure the community that we are there to protect them, as well as sending a message to anyone intent on causing trouble that their behaviour will not be tolerated.”
The partnership also includes Sefton Council, NHS Sefton and a host of other organisations.
Councillor Peter Dowd, cabinet member for communities, said: “This pro-active initiative will help residents and visitors to feel safe in Sefton during the festivities of Christmas and New Year.
“The partnership would like to remind individuals to enjoy themselves responsibly and with consideration to others so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable night.”
