Health expert 'can appear before MPs'


The Department of Health has denied stopping the expert leading a review of the controversial NHS reforms from appearing in front of a Commons committee.

A Labour member of the Health Select Committee said the department had “fiercely resisted if not vetoed” Steve Field appearing in front of the cross-party group.

But the department insisted that was not the case and Professor Field said he would be “delighted” to appear before the committee after he completed his review.

Traffic Light System for Lung Disease Patients Wins Award

A pilot project helping people in South Sefton who live with severe breathing illnesses has won a
prestigious award. The project, funded by the local South Sefton GP pathfinder consortium and led by NHS Sefton, was a winner at the first North West Respiratory Awards.

NHS North West Listening Exercise

On 6 April 2011, the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Health announced a listening exercise, ‘Working together for a stronger NHS’ across England to allow some of these questions and concerns to be further considered. The aim of this listening exercise is to pause, listen, reflect and improve the current proposed plans.
