Fears over Merseyside care home closures

THE Government was today coming under increasing pressure to help end uncertainty over the future of more than 20 care homes in Merseyside.

Merseyside tops league for alcohol-related NHS prescriptions

Merseyside is failing to tackle its drink culture, a new report has confirmed.

The NHS information centre revealed that the region tops the English league for prescriptions issued for alcohol-related diseases such as liver and mental disorders – 515 prescriptions per 100,000 population, up 8% on the previous year.


Young people in Liverpool choose A&E dental hospital above an NHS dentist

THOUSANDS of young people in Liverpool are choosing to be treated at the city’s A&E dental department, instead of registering with a regular dentist.

More than 6,000 patients attended the unit last year, costing the NHS more money than if they had visited ordinary dentists.

Mersey hospital is among the first to offer keyhole heart surgery on the NHS

A Merseyside hospital is among the first in the country to carry out keyhole heart surgery.

Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital is one of only three NHS hospitals in the UK offering the minimally-invasive procedure which sees a tiny camera guide the surgeon inside the heart.
