Liverpool CQC STAR Unit's excellent staff support adults with learning disabilities

Mersey Care NHS Trust has received a very positive report from health watchdog the Care Quality Commission following an unannounced visit.

The CQC visited the Trust's Specialist Treatment and Rehabilitation (STAR) Unit at Mossley Hill Hospital, Liverpool, which cares for adults with learning disabilities and additional complex needs, in October last year and makes its findings public today (8 February 2012). The Unit serves both the Liverpool and Sefton population.

LINks-CQC National Development Project

The Care Quality Commission is running a national development project with 27 LINks across the country aiming to:

  • Improve and develop our current relationships and information sharing with LINks
  • Prepare for how CQC can best work with local HealthWatch and how we work with HealthWatch England
  • Inform the development of the information systems between CQC and HealthWatch England.
This briefing outlines the project and described the contribution of each of the 27 LINks currently involved. The project builds on the Guide for LINks we published in June 2011, which was developed with the help of some LINks and CQC staff, to support our work together. This new project will run until September 2012 and will produce further briefing materials for LINks and a draft guide for local HealthWatch, to be discussed with HealthWatch England.

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) said it could mean 29 job losses and a reduced service for young people.
