NHS Sefton has appointed its former director of public health Dr Janet Atherton as acting chief executive.
The Liverpool Echo reported that Dr Atherton said: “This is an important time for the NHS in Sefton and I am pleased to be taking on this role.
“The PCT has a key role to play in leading local work to improve people’s health and make sure that people in the borough have high-quality, good value local services.”
Dr Atherton has been Director of Public Health at the trust and the local council since 2006, before this she undertook the same role at South Sefton Primary Care Trust from 2002.
The new chief executive will remain in her position until 2013, the date which the Government has proposed to cut PCTs.
Before being appointed as acting chief executive Dr Atherton was also in charge of the development of the Sefton Public Health Partnership, which aims to improve health services in the area by combining the skills of the PCT, the Council and the voluntary and community sector partners.
