DOCTORS at Southport hospital are reviewing hundreds of eye examinations after concern was raised about two of its staff.
Every year the trust screens diabetic patients for “diabetic retinopathy” – a complication of the condition where part of the eye becomes progressively damaged.
But now the images of 536 (less than 3% of those graded annually) are being looked at again because the work of two of the grading staff was not up to scratch.
Bosses are reassuring patients any risk to them is extremely low and the move is being carried out as a “precautionary measure”.
Consultant ophthalmologist Niall O’Donnell said: “We’re confident that most, if not all, have been satisfactorily graded.”
