Liverpool Womens Hospital: “Bringing our services to you at Aintree”

Leading fetal medicine specialist, Leanne Bricker is a familiar face at our Aintree Centre for Women’s Health where she identifies and cares for what may turn out to be high risk maternity patients.

She is just of one of our consultants who take a wide range of services to our Aintree Centre for women living in the North of the City. But a patient review has shown that some women are not aware that the services at Aintree are of the same standard as those at Crown Street and are provided by the same clinicians.


NHS Merseyside Board Meeting - Jan 2012

A meeting of the NHS Merseyside Board will take place in public at 10.00 a.m. on Tuesday 24th January 2012 in Boardroom 3, NHS Merseyside Offices, Regatta Place, Liverpool L3 4BL.

 Members of staff and the public are welcome to attendThe meeting will commence with a public meeting of each of the following PCT Boards:
  • NHS Halton and St Helens
  • NHS Knowsley
  • Liverpool PCT
  • NHS Sefton

New 110 homes plan for Southport Hospital land in Kew

Proposals to build 110 homes on Southport Hospital land have been discussed by Sefton Council’s Planning Committee.

A preliminary application for a new housing development on Town Lane, Kew, was considered by councillors last night (Wednesday). If approved, the amount of new homes that could be built in Kew in the coming years would move above 800.


Latest phase of new-look Aintree Hospital in for planning

Plans by architects Taylor Young for a £20m scheme at Aintree University Hospital have been submitted to Liverpool City Council.

Under the proposals, the accident and emergency department will be extended to allow more room for patients receiving treatment and new ‘see and treat’ rooms will be built to help the flow of patients through the department. The critical care department will be expanded by 24 beds. The fracture clinic will move into a new purpose-built department to improve access for patients requiring treatment and cardiology will be centralised to ensure greater access between the department and coronary care.

Sefton Partnership awarded a second consecutive award from The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH)

Improving the health and wellbeing of the borough has earned Sefton Partnership a second consecutive prestigious award from The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH).


Sefton Partnership, made up of NHS Sefton, Sefton CVS, Sefton Council, One Vision Housing and the May Logan Healthy Living Centre, were one of only seven UK organisations to be presented with the RSPH’s Health Promotion and Community Wellbeing Organisation and Partnerships Award this year.

New procedure at Liverpool Women’s Hospital is bringing hope and joy

The festive lights have never looked brighter for Rachel Backhouse. This Christmas, after years of heartache, she has been given the best present ever – the gift of a baby daughter.


“There were times when I thought it would never happen and of course I can never forget my journey over the last few years,” says Rachel, who is 29 and from Runcorn.


Aintree Hospital chef rustles up Christmas cake for colleagues in Afghanistan

A LIVERPOOL hospital chief created a special Christmas cake for his colleagues serving at a hospital in Afghanistan.

Brian Ahmed, 54, head chef at Fazakerley Hospital made the cake as a reminder of home.
Five medics from the hospital are members of the Territorial Army.


Aintree University Hospital patients contacted over virus

Hospital bosses are contacting 73 patients treated on the renal ward at Liverpool's Aintree University Hospital after one patient caught Hepatitis B from another.

A spokesman said the patients, who were treated on Ward 20 between 21 May to 24 June, would be tested next month as a precaution.Health officials said there had been a low risk of catching the virus.
The patients affected have already been sent letters by the hospital.

Last month, Sefton LINk members attended a Coffee Morning at Waterloo Day Hospital with Mersey Care staff and representatives who discussed plans around the changes in Mental Health services and how this would impact service users. Members heard Mersey Care’s plans for the South Sefton Mental Health Resource Centre, and there is a chance for Sefton LINk to have a representative on the Mersey Care Design Team. Social Care Services over Christmas and New Year


Sefton Council have also recently published some important information about Social Care Services over Christmas and New Year. Most Social Care offices will be closed from Friday 23rd December 2011 until Monday 2nd January 2012 inclusive, so local contact numbers in case of emergencies are now available for both North and South Sefton. Everton FC players delight Alder Hey Hospital patients during Christmas visit

Everton FC players delighted young Alder Hey patients during a visit to the children’s hospital. The annual Christmas event saw the Goodison Park squad tour wards and hand out presents. The players also signed balls and shirts for some of the youngsters.
