Commissioning board chief admits 'I don't use the NHS'

The admission from Professor Malcolm Grant came during a grilling he received at the hands of the House of Commons Health Committee last week.

When asked to demonstrate his ‘passion' for the NHS, the University College London provost, appointed to the role earlier this month, was forced onto the defensive by MPs.

‘Come on, what do you want me to say?' he asked. ‘I find it difficult to demonstrate because I am not a patient of the NHS.'

Arms length Bodies to close

The review of Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs) published in July 2010 assessed whether the work of each of the Department’s ALBs remains essential.

It also looked at whether work was being duplicated or could be carried out by a different body, or in a different way. There was a clear intention to remove from the sector those organisations that the review concluded would no longer be needed. This statement provides more information on those organisations.

Introducing... Wendy, the new Sefton LINk Engagement and Participation Officer

"Hello. My name is Wendy and I am the new Sefton LINk Engagement and Participation Officer based at the 3tc Centre in Waterloo.

I joined the Sefton LINk Support Team on the 1st August 2011 and I am employed to work 3 days per week.

Part of my role will be to talk to you as LINk members to find out your views and opinions on how you would like to be involved and engaged with Sefton LINk, therefore over the next few months I will be contacting some of our existing members.

In addition I will be working across Sefton attending various events and visiting local Voluntary, Community and Faith groups (VCF) in order to promote Sefton LINk and to increase the membership.

If you are aware of any local VCF groups or health centres where I could come along to then please give me a call. I am looking forward to working with you all over the coming months. Wendy"
