On 6 April 2011, the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Health announced a listening exercise, ‘Working together for a stronger NHS’ across England to allow some of these questions and concerns to be further considered. The aim of this listening exercise is to pause, listen, reflect and improve the current proposed plans.
To do this, NHS North West will be gathering views of patients, clinicians and the public around 4 main themes. These themes are:
• The role of choice and competition for improving quality;
• How to ensure public accountability and patient involvement in the new system;
• How new arrangements for education and training can support the modernisation process; and
• How advice from across a range of healthcare professions can improve patient care.

All views and information gathered will feed into the NHS Futures Forum who will consider this feedback and the current proposals and where appropriate adapt their proposals in light of engagement and discussion. Included in the agenda will be a presentation from Bill McCarthy, Chief Executive, NHS Yorkshire & the Humber who will be representing the Future Forum.
NHS North West is hosting a regional event as a focus for this national listening exercise on Tuesday 24th May at the City of Manchester Stadium from 09:30 until 12:30. The event is open to everyone, however places are limited so we ask that organisations send a maximum of two representatives ( if required a waiting list will be in place if you require additional places).
